A runner since childhood Steve Cable born in the UK has been competing since the age of 11. His love and talent for running was developed while serving in the Royal Navy and later during his eighteen years service as a policeman in Kent. In his youth he was a regular on the road and cross country circuit and soon developed a taste for the trails completing the three peaks challenge (Ben Nevis, Scarfell Pike and Mt Snowdon) on three occasions in under 24 hours.
During the 90’s Steve began to enter some of the new challenge and adventure races that were breaking on to the scene and during this period took part in the gruelling "Tough Guy" event seven times and a number of other multi-discipline events. In the late 90's he began entering triathlons, twice competing in the European emergency services triathlon championships.
Trail running continued to be his first love and 2nd place at the London to Brighton 56 mile X Country Ultra in 2007 and two victories at the Quicksand 15 in 2007 and 2008 were followed by victory on the road in the Thanet Half Marathon. Regular age group podium places on trail and road continue to this day the most recent being a vet 50 win at the 2016 Blackpool Marathon in the UK. In 2009 Steve took part in his first Ironman Triathlon in Nice, France followed by a second in 2011 in Frankfurt, Germany. His third and most recent Ironman took place in Barcelona in 2016 and resulted in a PB of 11 hours 42 minutes. Steve has a road marathon PB of 2:52:25 which he is looking to better at London in 2017.
Steve’s ultra credentials are pretty reasonable too, with a 100 mile PB of 21:12 over the hilly North Downs in the UK in 2013 and a top 20 finish in the unforgiving Al Andalus Ultimate Trail 230K 5 day stage race, despite suffering a knee injury on the second stage.
Steve moved to Spain at the beginning of 2015 and has been a resident of Alhama de Granada ever since. "With virtually year round sunshine, the area is a paradise for anyone who likes outdoor activities" he says. "You can hit the trails as soon as you open your door, ride your bike for hours without hardly seeing a car and be at the lake or at the coast for a swim in next to no time".
Why Trail Run Spain?….We hope to create a new "must see" location where Trail Runners, Triathletes and multi-sport enthusiasts can discover the incredible diversity of training opportunities that Alhama de Granada and the surrounding region has to offer, add to that the incredible value for money, picturesque surroundings and remarkable cultural history and here we believe we have the full package…
